THE RUNDOWN:
- “Tears” is the second single from Sabrina Carpenter’s seventh studio album, Man’s Best Friend, following the single “Manchild.”
- In the song, she sings about the qualities she values most in a man.
- The music video stars Colman Domingo, whom Carpenter called “truly incomparable, magnetic, and fantastic.”
Sabrina Carpenter loves a responsible partner.
On her latest single, “Tears,” from her seventh studio album, Man’s Best Friend, Carpenter sings about her favorite qualities in a man.
“A little initiative can go a very long, long way / Baby, just do the dishes, I’ll give you what you (What you), what you want / A little communication, yes, that’s my ideal foreplay / Assemble a chair from IKEA, I’m like, ‘Uh’ (Ah),” she sings in the first verse.
And if he’s emotionally intelligent, too? Even better.
The second verse goes: “A little respect for women can get you very, very far / Remembering how to use your phone gets me oh so (Oh so), oh so hot / Considering I have feelings, I’m like, “Why are my clothes still on?” (Mm) / Offering to do anything, I’m like (Uh), “Oh my god.”
The music video, released on August 29, subverts the relationship themes of the song and instead pays homage to the camp of The Rocky Horror Picture Show. Colman Domingo even makes an appearance in drag. “Wish we were still dancing in the street at 4am,” Carpenter wrote about Domingo. She also called her co-star “truly incomparable, magnetic, and fantastic.”
