Doja Cat knows how to keep the internet talking—and her latest stunt, one she pulled at the MTV Video Music Awards last night, may be her best yet. The singer shocked fans when she pulled out a tube of red lipstick for a mid-carpet touch-up, then took a bite.
In true Doja Cat fashion, the viral moment was actually an announcement of her new partnership with M·A·C. The product at the center of it all is M·A·Cximal Silky Matte Lipstick in the shade Lady Danger, one of the artist’s go-to reds. She also wore the brand’s Lip Liner Pencil in the shade Cherry. Right now, you can grab Doja’s exact lip combo at Ulta and Nordstrom for $50.
But did Doja Cat actually eat lipstick at the VMAs? Thankfully, the answer is no. M·A·C later revealed in a press release that the rapper’s red carpet snack was actually an edible chocolate replica created by celebrity pastry chef Amaury Guichon.
“Makeup is my paint, my armor, my way of creating characters,” Doja wrote in a joint post with M·A·C announcing her new role as a global ambassador. “We’re going to push it even further and make people see beauty in a whole new way…wearing a whole lot of Lady Danger along the way.”
The ELLE cover star also wore a harlequin-inspired Balmain dress, Chopard jewels, and lipstick-shaped Judith Leiber clutch to the event. We’d be remiss not to mention her ’80s-inspired, sky-high blonde hair, as well.
After nibbling on a few more tubes during interviews, Doja opened the awards show with her first televised performance of “Jealous Type” from her upcoming album, Vie, available on September 26. Later, she took home her sixth VMA award, winning the ‘Best K-Pop’ category for her feature on LISA’s “Born Again.”
