Pascal was nominated for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series for his portrayal of Joel Miller in The Last of Us season 2. The series and its cast racked up a handful of nods, including Outstanding Drama Series and, for Pascal’s costar Bella Ramsey, Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series.

Speaking with Esquire, Pascal and Ramsey opened up about working together on the second season. Ramsey said there was “a fresh energy and excitement” on set, and they were happy to reunite with Pascal. “I loved it when you came back to set. I missed you,” they added. Although the duo had to film several dramatic—and downright heartbreaking—scenes together, Pascal said they were still able to “have fun even in the darkest moments for our characters.”

He added that they would often burst into laughter. “Yeah, we’ve got a giggle problem,” he said. “We call it ‘corpsing’ in the UK. Here it’s a giggle issue or breaking. We break character, and it becomes this horrifyingly contagious sensation. Like your body is a prisoner to laughter in a way. The more tense it gets, the more anxious you get.”

This year, Pascal appeared in other buzzy projects, including The Fantastic Four: First Steps, Materialists, and Eddington. He told Deadline that his foray into the Marvel Cinematic Universe carried a certain weight—the type he felt when stepping into his roles for Game of Thrones, Narcos, Star Wars, and The Last of Us.

“They’re all scary because you really want to make people happy, especially if it’s something that’s widely known with particular expectations around it because you want those expectations to be met,” he said. “You also want to be authentic to yourself so that it can be the best that it can be for anybody who wants to be entertained by a story and travel with us into this world.”

Looking ahead, fans can expect to see Pascal return to a galaxy far, far away next year when the Jon Favreau-directed film The Mandalorian and Grogu lands in theaters on May 22, 2026.
