THE RUNDOWN
- Ariana Grande skipped the 2025 Emmys after being snubbed in the one category for which she was eligible.
- The star just won Video of the Year at last weekend’s MTV VMAs.
- She will be back in the spotlight this fall for the Wicked: For Good press tour.
Ariana Grande was front and center at last week’s MTV VMAs, where she won the coveted Video of the Year award and wore four different dresses. This evening’s Emmys are a different story, as the singer and actress chose not to attend. But she had good reason to skip the L.A. ceremony; Grande was snubbed in the one category she was eligible for: Best Guest Actress in a Comedy Series for her work hosting Saturday Night Live. (The category, additionally, was announced during the preshow.)
Grande is not a presenter at the show and has no other nominations. The Emmys recognize achievements in TV, and Grande has been doing more film lately. The actress even shared photos of herself in New York City earlier today, further confirming she’s not in L.A. for the ceremony.
Her Focker In-Law co-star Ben Stiller was thinking about her on the red carpet, though. He discussed working with her on the film, which is in production.
“What’s surprising—maybe not really surprising—is how amazing she has blended in [with the rest of the cast],” he told E!. “She’s such a pro. She’s so funny. She’s so talented, obviously, as a singer, but also she’s so funny and amazing…What she’s doing in this movie is kind of very unique. It’s a very unique character, and we’re having a great time, and just to go to work with her and De Niro—and Owen Wilson the other day decided to drop by, and that was fun.”
Last Sunday, Grande spoke at the VMAs about her career balance. She thanked her fans for their patience as she pursues both music and acting. “Thank you for growing with me and being so supportive of me as a human being navigating in real time which creative itch needs to be scratched, whether it’s acting, music, musical theater, or a little bit of tour,” she said in her Video of the Year acceptance speech for “Brighter Days Ahead.” “This project is about the hard work that is healing different kinds of trauma and coming home to our young selves and creating safety in our own lives, which is a lifelong process and a daily exercise. If you’re on that journey, please continue onward, because I promise there are brighter days ahead.”
Grande will remain in the spotlight this fall as she embarks on her Wicked: For Good press tour with co-star Cynthia Erivo, who is coincidentally nominated tonight for a Best Guest Actress in a Comedy Series Emmy for her role in Poker Face.
Grande last attended the Primetime Creative Arts Emmys, which are separate from tonight’s main ceremony, way back in 2012:
