Charlie Hunnam is best known for his intense roles in Sons of Anarchy, Pacific Rim, and King Arthur: Legend of the Sword. And up next, he’s set to star in season 3 of Ryan Murphy’s anthology series Monster, where he will portray the serial killer Ed Gein.
But offscreen, Hunnam’s life is far more laid-back and private. For nearly two decades, he’s been dating Morgana McNelis. While it’s unclear when or how they first met, Hunnam shared in 2020 that they had been together for about 14 years, meaning their relationship likely began around 2006. Though the couple keeps their romance largely out of the spotlight, here’s what is publicly known about McNelis and their relationship.
McNelis is a jewelry designer.
McNelis owns a jewelry line called Maison de Morgana. The brand’s Instagram page has been inactive since 2021, but there are still photos up of celebrities like Zac Efron and Troian Bellisario wearing her pieces. Maison de Morgana also no longer has an active website, so it’s unclear whether McNelis still designs jewelry.
Back in 2012, Hunnam told ELLE that McNelis makes jewelry for him, too. “She told me she was making me a diamond encrusted ring,” he said. “She’s a jewelry designer, not an actor—and I was like ‘Uh-oh. This is not going to go well for me.’ But I love it. It’s so discrete and beautiful.”
McNelis has shared photos of her and Hunnam.
When she was active on Instagram, McNelis occasionally posted photos of herself with Hunnam.
The most recent was posted on March 21, 2019 with the caption: “Happy Holi!!! 🦚🌈#indialove.”
Three years earlier, on June 4, 2016, she posted a photo of them watching a UFC fight, writing, “UFC Fight Night with my babe, we’re pumped. ❤️😝👊 #UFC #fight #bestdateever #fightnight #knockout #saturdate.”
McNelis and Hunnam have made very few public appearances over the years.
McNelis and Hunnam typically keep a low profile and have only been photographed a handful of times.
Their first public appearance was in August 2008 at a Sons of Anarchy screening.
In August 2009, they attended the Sons of Anarchy season 2 premiere.
And in June 2012, they went to the Critics Choice Television Awards, where he was nominated for Sons of Anarchy in the Best Actor in a Drama Series category.
Hunnam once asked fans to stop bullying McNelis online.
Per a 2016 People report, Hunnam wrote on his Facebook fan page at the time: “It has been brought to my attention that there is a group of immature girls posting a large number of hard messages aimed at my longtime girlfriend. I would respectfully ask you to stop doing this. She is an intelligent, beautiful, kind person who just tried to live a simple life and has nothing to do with the entertainment industry.”
He continued, “What is most confusing is that these negative and totally unprovoked attacks appear to be coming from the people who call themselves my fans. Think about the logic of this for a moment. This is a girl I love very much and have spent the last 11 years of my life with and hope to spend the next 60 years. She has been my loyal and supportive partner long before I had any success or money. Why would you attack her out of admiration for me? It makes no sense.”
Hunnam has shared his thoughts about marrying McNelis.
In a 2020 SiriusXM interview with Andy Cohen, Hunnam said that he was “sort of indifferent” to the idea of marriage. “She does not feel the same,” he added. “She’s very eager to get married. I’ll do it because it’s important to her, but I don’t have any great romantic feelings towards it.”
He quickly walked that statement back a few weeks later. “I gotta say, that really hurt my girlfriend’s feelings, and I really regretted saying that,” Hunnam said, per People. “I actually didn’t mean it at all, it was, frankly, just stupid shit I said in the heat of the moment.”
He then went on to say that he already considers himself married to her. “I’m, like, so romantic, and the reality is I sort of consider myself married. I’ve been with my girlfriend for 14 years. I suppose what I was trying to articulate—the official government sanction of it doesn’t mean anything to me, but the romance of it means an enormous amount.”
He added, “I really regret saying that. But listen, you spend 12 hours a day for three days doing interviews straight, you’re going to say stupid shit, especially a guy like me that’s not that smart.”
McNelis attended the Emmys with Hunnam in September 2025.
McNelis and Hunnam made a rare public appearance at the Emmys on September 14. This marked their first public outing since 2012, when they walked the red carpet at that year’s Critics Choice Television Awards.
