THE RUNDOWN:
- At the US Open last night, Venus Williams lost to Karolina Muchová in a lengthy match.
- Williams sported a custom ERL look completed with a fuzzy tennis bag.
- Earlier in the tournament, Williams also wore custom Luar and Khaite kit.
Last night, Venus Williams’s much-anticipated return to the US Open came to an end after losing to Karolina Muchová in a two-hour match during the first round of singles competition. However, despite the brevity, her time on the court was filled with sleek and sporty fashions that reminded us all of her elite signature flair.
Williams was a vision in tennis whites as she walked into Arthur Ashe Stadium. The seven-time Grand Slam winner sported a full custom ERL look (with the exception of her go-to Lacoste sneakers), comprised of a logo-embroidered white polo shirt, a pleated skirt, and a visor, all styled by Ronald Burton III. And it didn’t stop there—alongside her Wilson bag, she also carried a custom handmade shearling ERL racket bag, adding a pop of unexpected fun and texture to the more traditional silhouette. The five-year-old brand has quickly become a celebrity favorite—even A$AP Rocky and Rihanna sported twinning polka-dot tie looks from a recent collection earlier this summer.
Williams’s time at the tournament has delivered one striking look after another. During her mixed doubles match with Reilly Poelka, also against Muchová on August 19, she sported a navy mini athletic dress with white piping by New York-based cult-favorite label Khaite. She stuck with the New-York based theme for her match with John McEnroe, wearing an asymmetrical black pleated dress from Luar, made in collaboration with Woolmark. That outfit was paired with a black oversized bomber jacket, fitted with button detailing across the body—a signature of the brand—and completed with a cursive “L” logo crossbody bag. Both ensembles were also styled by Ronald Burton III.
Her on-court fashion is just the beginning at this year’s tournament. Coco Gauff, competing tonight, is an ambassador for the upcoming Miu Miu x New Balance collection, which officially drops on September 10. After making a statement during her Cincinnati Open run, the co-branded line is all but guaranteed to return to New York’s most stylish tennis stage.
