Miley Cyrus is opening up about her father, Billy Ray Cyrus.

On September 19, Cyrus released the deluxe version of her album, Something Beautiful, which includes the new song “Secrets” featuring Fleetwood Mac’s Lindsey Buckingham and Mick Fleetwood.

The track, she says, is dedicated to Billy Ray, whom she’s reportedly had a strained relationship with over the years.

“This song was written as a peace offering for someone I had lost for a time but always loved,” she wrote on Instagram. “In my experience, forgiveness and freedom are one and the same. Thank you to Lindsey Buckingham & Mick Fleetwood for bringing magic to the music. This song is for my dad.”

In the first verse, Cyrus sings about wanting to know what her father is hiding: “Secrets, I wanna keep your secrets / Like sunlight in the shadows / Like footsteps in the grass / I won’t ever break my promise / Like a songbird in the silence / Like stones against the glass.”

Previously, in June 2025, Cyrus appeared on Monica Lewinsky’s “Reclaiming” and discussed “Secrets.”

“I wrote this song about my dad because I wanted him to tell me—even though they were secrets, even though I didn’t really want to know—I wanted to be the one he felt safe enough to tell.”

Billy Ray seemingly loves the song, and posted about it on Instagram, writing: “Best birthday gift a dad could ever ask for. ❤️ Thank you @mileycyrus for Secrets… a song straight from your heart to mine. The memories we’ve made together mean the world to me, and seeing you soar with your music makes me prouder every single day. Having Lindsey Buckingham and Mick Fleetwood on this track is pure magic. Here’s some memories through the years with Miley… hope y’all enjoy this as much as I do.”

In the music video—directed by Cyrus, Jacob Bixenman, and Brendan Walter—she wears looks from Iris Van Herpen Couture and Maison Margiela while singing in L.A.’s Million Dollar Theatre, where the original album artwork was made.

Read the lyrics and listen to the full song below:

Verse 1
Secrets, I wanna keep your secrets
Like sunlight in the shadows
Like footsteps in the grass
I won’t ever break my promise
Like a songbird in the silence
Like stones against the glass

Pre-Chorus

We’re chained to the rhythm

Chorus
Hero
Can I be your hero?
Call off all your forces
A white flag in the war

Post-Chorus
Oh, I wanna be the one (I wanna be the one)
I wanna be the one (I wanna be the one)
Anywhere you run (Anywhere you run)
You know I’ll follow, whoa
Anywhere you go (Anywhere you go, you know I’ll follow)

Verse 2
Love is not a prison
I’m not a guard, no
So even when I’m holding you
I won’t lock you up
You can come and go as you want
Would you like to be lonely?
Your word is all I want (Want)

Chorus
Hero (Anywhere you go)
Can I be your hero? (Anywhere you go)
Call off all your forces (Anywhere you go)
A white flag in the war (Anywhere you go, you know I’ll follow)

Post-Chorus

Oh, I wanna be the one (I wanna be the one)
I wanna be the one (I wanna be the one)
Anywhere you run (Anywhere you run)
You know I’ll follow, whoa (Anywhere you go)
Anywhere you go (Anywhere you go, you know I’ll follow)
Oh, I wanna be the one (I wanna be the one)
I wanna be the one (I wanna be the one)
Anywhere you run (Anywhere you run)
You know I’ll follow, whoa (Anywhere you go)
Anywhere you go (Anywhere you go, you know I’ll follow)
You know I’ll follow

Outro
Anywhere you go, you know I’ll follow
I’ll follow anywhere you go
I’ll follow anywhere you go
I’ll follow anywhere you go
I’ll follow
